You should be able to maintain your Celestron Firstscope without any professional assistance. Follow these steps to keep the device in top condition.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Celestron FirstScope 114 Short Newtonian Equatorial telescope

Step1
Replace the lens covers when you are not using the telescope. This step will protect the lens from dust and other contaminants.

Step2
Some dust accumulation on a lens is normal. However, if the dust thickens, use a can of compressed air and a camel's hair brush to clean the lens.

Step3
Only a professional can clean the mirrors. If you can't find a telescope repair facility, return the device to the factory.

Step4
Your telescope might require collimation if you have handled it roughly or dropped it. Turn the collimation adjustment screws at the back of the optical tube or order a collimation tool from the factory.
