The setting circles of the equatorial mount make it easy to locate objects in the sky. To use these setting circles, you must first align the equatorial mount with the earth's axis of rotation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Celestron FirstScope 114 Short Newtonian Equatorial telescope

Step1
Hold the equatorial mount with one hand and loosen the polar axis knob with the other.

Step2
Maneuver the latitude adjustment knob at the back of the mount to adjust the mount's angle.

Step3
Maneuver the mount until it is the latitude of your location. Consult the latitude scale if necessary.

Step4
Tighten the knob of the polar axis.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will need to repeat Step 1 if you change the latitude.
