If you are interested in tracking stars, you need to achieve rough polar alignment. Follow these procedures to accomplish the task on a Celestron Firstscope 76EQ Telescope.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Celestron Firstscope 76EQ Telescope

Step1
Point the right-ascension axis to the North Pole.
Step2
Ensure that the equatorial mount is level.
Step3
Ensure that your latitude is set. Once polar alignment is achieved, the declination setting circle should read 90 degrees when looking at the North Star.
Step4
Use the right-ascension cable to make adjustments as objects drift out of the field of view (due to the earth's rotation). You will not need to make adjustments in the declination axis.
