How to Align the Equatorial Mount of the Celestron Firstscope 76EQ Telescope

The setting circles of the equatorial mount of the Celestron Firstscope 76EQ Telescope make finding objects in the sky relatively easy. In order to use these setting circles, you must align the equatorial mount with the earth's axis of rotation.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Celestron Firstscope 76EQ Telescope
  1. Step 1

    Hold the equatorial mount with one hand and loosen the polar-axis knob with the other.

  2. Step 2

    Find the latitude-adjustment knob at the back of the mount. You'll use this to adjust the mount's angle.

  3. Step 3

    Adjust the mount until it is at the latitude of your location. Look at the latitude scale if necessary.

  4. Step 4

    Tighten the polar-axis knob.

Tips & Warnings
  • You will need to repeat these steps if you use the telescope in a different latitude.
