You can download guided tours of the night sky for your Meade LX90 GPS Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope from the Meade Web site (see link below). Or, if you are interested in creating your own guided tour, you can set your telescope to slew to a list of celestial objects that you choose. You will be able to see information displayed about those objects including the type of object, constellation location and RA (right ascension) and Dec (declination) coordinates. Here's how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Meade LX90 GPS Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and a PC with a text editor or word-processing software.

Step1
Decide if you would like to create your tour in automatic or interactive mode.
Step2
Enter programming commands in the command line . These could include the RA and Dec coordinates, a keyword, a description string and a title string.
Step3
Use the commands in step two to write your tour. If you put "Auto Select" before any of the command lines, you will activate the Automatic Mode, and Autostar will search for and find the object.

Tips & Warnings

  • A tour is an ASCII text file that contains directions and descriptions. Each line of the tour you create will be a description, command line or comment line.
  • You must save the tour ss a text only or MS-DOS text file.
  • The objects on the tour you create will be selected from Autostar's database. Or, you can enter the RA and Dec coordinates.
  • The title must be the first keyword in the tour and be 15 characters or less.
