To view Saturn, use the GO TO SATURN procedure on the Meade DS-2000 Autostar system. Be sure to perform the EASY ALIGN procedure before attempting the steps below. Once you've performed the EASY ALIGN procedure, you can not only view Saturn but any other object you enter into Autostar's database.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Use the MODE key until you see SELECT ITEM: OBJECT. Press ENTER.
Step2
OBJECT: SOLAR SYSTEM will be displayed. Press ENTER.
Step3
SOLAR SYSTEM: MERCURY will be displayed. Press the SCROLL DOWN key until SOLAR SYSTEM: SATURN is displayed. Press ENTER.
Step4
On the next screen, you will see CALCULATING, SATURN and coordinates display. Press GO TO.
Step5
On the next screen, you will see SATURN: SLEWING... The telescope will slew (move) to Saturn.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may need to use the ARROW keys to center Saturn in the eyepiece because the motors may knock the telescope off alignment slightly.
  • Saturn may not be visible all the time.
  • Saturn's coordinates may change during the year.
  • Do not manually adjust the telescope while the telescope is calculating. This will throw off the alignment.
