Things You'll Need:
- Car alarm
- Owner's manual
-
Step 1
Take a look at your alarm unit and SUV. A diagram of your SUV’s wiring will be helpful. Also make sure your alarm’s manual is at hand.
-
Step 2
Remove whatever part, if any, of the SUV's paneling that needs to be removed to install the alarm unit.
-
Step 3
Find a solid metal location outside the SUV, like under the hood, to mount the alarm’s siren. Once you find a suitable place, mount it.
-
Step 4
Look around the inside of the SUV and place the alarms module or unit somewhere that is accessible yet out of sight.
-
Step 5
Wire the valet switch that comes with the alarm. Take notice of where the manual indicates wires should be cut or altered.
-
Step 6
Plug in and mount the external antenna of your alarm system.
-
Step 7
Consult the manual and plot a wiring plan for the LED light. Once you have done this install the LED light and plug it into the alarm module.
-
Step 8
Open the hood of your SUV and find its battery. Connect the alarm’s power wire directly to this battery and attach a fuse as directed by the manual.
-
Step 9
Install the alarm’s shock detector system. More wiring will be involved in this step and you may wish to contact a tech advisor for additional support.
-
Step 10
Run the wires for your alarm’s door lock mechanism. This will also require a bit of work and a tech advisor may be able to help.
-
Step 11
Follow the manual to install any current sensory components when your alarm comes with them.
-
Step 12
Locate your SUV’s starter wire. This will most likely be under the steering wheel in the column. Once you’ve done that, wire the alarm’s starter disabling component.
-
Step 13
Complete any last minute wiring and clean up, if your security system’s manual calls for it. Once this is completed your alarm should be ready for use.
