Your Skype profile is highly customizable, allowing you to hide or share different pieces of the personal profile information other users see. Sharing personal information on Skype is strictly optional, but if you don't post any personal information at all in your Skype profile, other users won't be able to find you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with an Internet connection or Personal Digital Assitant (PDA) with Internet capabilities
  • Skype program and a Skype account

Sharing Your Skype Profile

Step1
Log in to your Skype account with your user name and password.
Step2
Click on “File.”
Step3
Click on “Edit my Profile.” A new window will open containing your profile. This page allows you to select which information to share and which to keep private. Remember that sharing personal information is optional.
Step4
Add or subtract information from your profile. Choose which information you want to share with all Skype users and which you want to share only with your contacts. Your email address always stays hidden.
Step5
After changing the information in your profile, click “Update” to update your profile and return to your Skype program.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your profile information is divided into three groups: details that all Skype users will see, details that only your contacts will see and your own private details.
  • The details that all Skype users will see allow them to find you on the Skype network. You don't have to share any information, but the more information you share, the easier it will be for people to find you. All Skype users can view this information.
  • The details that only your contacts will see can be modified as well. You can select or de-select your local time or how many contacts you have if you want to keep that information private. Only the contacts on your Skype list will be able to see this information.
  • The details kept private are seen only by you. Your email address always remains private on Skype. If someone knows your email address they can use it to search for you on Skype, but your profile will not show your address.
  • If you forget your password, Skype uses your email address to send you a new one. If you no longer have access to the email address on file with Skype, you will have to change it in your profile.
