How to Rename a Shared Group in Skype

Renaming a group in Skype is relatively quick and easy if you are the group owner. If the group owner leaves, you may decide the old name no longer fits the group. This is common in work environments when a department manager resigns or is transferred. George may have named his group, "George's Awesome Sales Group," but when Larry takes over, he may want to rename the group. Casual or social Skype users may choose to change a group name as the membership changes or the focus of the group is redirected. Here is how to rename a shared group in Skype.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Skype following the Windows > Programs > Skype path on Windows machines or Applications > Skype on Mac computers.

    • 2

Become the owner of the group. This is already done if you started the group and have never given ownership to another user. If you are not the owner, ask the owner to relinquish ownership to you.

    • 3

Click on your "Contacts" tab located in the upper half of your Skype window.

    • 4

Click the "Groups" bar, located directly below the "Contacts" tab. This should expand vertically to display your group names. If it doesn't, click the "Groups" bar again.

    • 5

Click on the group you'd like to rename. This should highlight the group name in blue.

    • 6

      Right-click on the group name.

    • 7

Select "Rename Group" from the menu.

    • 8

      Type the new group name.

    • 9

Press "Enter" on your keyboard to complete the name change.
