Skype will connect you via the Internet.

If Your Friend Is Not on Skype

    • 4

Click the "Dial" tab in the main section of your Skype window. You will find it between the "Contacts" and "History" tabs.

    • 5

Select the region or country you are calling using the "1" pull-down menu (the default is your home country). Select the country code for your friend's phone number.

    • 6

Using the number keys on your computer keyboard, enter your friend's telephone number in the field next to the number "2." You also can enter the number by clicking the keypad in the center of your Skype window.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not see the "Dial" tab in your Skype window, click "View" in the menu bar and then click "View Dialpad."

  • Access the Dialpad menu. Click the menu bar icon that depicts a telephone within a circular shape.

  • Add to your Contacts list any friends whom you plan to call often. Click the "History" tab, right-click the number for the pop-up menu and click "Add to Contacts."

  • Talk to more than one friend at a time using the conference call feature.

  • Don't get carried away calling friends on their cell phones with Skype just because it's free or inexpensive. Your friends may have to pay for any minutes that exceed their calling plan.
