Since the Earth continuously rotates, any objects you view through your Meade telescope will appear to slowly move. Automatically tracking these objects will keep them centered in your eyepiece so you won't have to continually adjust your instrument.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Meade LX90 GPS Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope

Step1
Initialize AutoStar. Choose "Targets: Astronomical" from AutoStar's "Setup" menu.
Step2
After you have completed the automatic alignment procedure, "Select: Object" will display on AutoStar II.
Step3
Choose a star from one of the "Object" menus. Using the viewfinder, line up the object. Using the "Arrow" keys on AutoStar, center the star in the eyepiece. You should now hear the tracking motors keeping the star in the center of the eyepiece.
