If you are a telescope enthusiast, you know that you often want to change focus from one object to another. With a Meade telescope, the AutoStar's "Arrow" keys make it easy. Here is how to change your view from one object to another using AutoStar's "Arrow" keys.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Meade DSX-90 Altazimuth-Cassegrain telescope
Step1
Make sure that the altitude locks and tripod base lock knob are secured.

Step2
Verify that AutoStar is properly connected to your telescope.

Step3
Turn the telescope's power on. The AutoStar screen will be activated and a copyright message displays briefly, followed by a short beep. Then AutoStar takes a few moments to start the system.

Step4
Press the key indicating that you have read and understood AutoStar's warning about the sun.

Step5
The "Arrow" keys are now activated. Press the "Arrow" keys to slew the telescope up, down, right or left.

Step6
Press the "Speed" key to change the telescope’s slew speed.

Step7
Use the viewfinder to locate an object and practice using AutoStar’s "Arrow" keys to center the object in the telescope's eyepiece.

Step8
Use the telescope’s focus knob to bring the object into focus.

Tips & Warnings

  • AutoStar has nine slew speeds that are directly proportional to the sidereal rate of a star.
  • Never point the telescope directly at the sun.
