The viewfinder must be aligned to the main telescope. Steps one through five should be completed during the day time. Step six, complete at night.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Attach the viewfinder to the viewfinder mounting assembly by sliding the track on the bottom of the viewfinder slot. Secure the two thumbscrews to a firm feel only.
Step2
Make sure that the Super Plossl 26mm eyepiece has been inserted into the diagonal prism.
Step3
So that the telescope can move freely on both axes, unlock the Dec and R.A. Locks.
Step4
Focus the telescope on an object at least 200 yards or further, centering the object in the telescope. With the object in focus, secure the R.A. And Dec. locks.
Step5
Tighten or loosen the viewfinder alignment screws until the object you previously centered is centered in the viewfinder crosshairs as seen through the viewfinder eyepiece.
Step6
By using the methods in steps three through four, you can make any refinements necessary to view any celestial objects such as planets or the moon.

Tips & Warnings

  • The SmartFinder also needs to be aligned.
  • Do not look at or near the sun through your telescope.
  • Looking through the telescope while it is moving is also inadvisable.
