How to Align the Viewfinder of Your Meade DSX-125C Altazimuth-Cassegrain Telescope

In order to spot objects quickly and accurately even under low power, you must first align the viewfinder on your Meade DSX-125C Altazimuth-Cassegrain telescope. Here's how to do it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Meade DSX-125C Altazimuth-Cassegrain telescope

Step1
Unscrew the tripod base lock knob as well as the altitude lock in a counterclockwise fashion.



Step2
Put a low power eyepiece in the eyepiece holder and aim the telescope at a land object that is easy to find. Turn the focuser knob until the object is in sharp focus. Center the object in the main telescope's field of view.

Step3
Screw the tripod base lock knob and altitude lock until they are tight.

Step4
Look through the viewfinder and turn the viewfinder's alignment screws until the viewfinder's crosshairs are pointing at the same object centered in the main telescope.

Step5
Check the alignment on an object in the sky, such as the moon. Make any necessary adjustments.

Tips & Warnings

  • Perform steps 1 through 4 during the day and step 5 at night.
