Because the Earth is constantly rotating, your telescope must automatically track objects so that you are not constantly readjusting the device. As the telescope automatically tracks an object, the object will generally remain in the center of the eyepiece. Here's how to set your Meade DSX-90 Altazimuth-Cassegrain telescope so that it automatically tracks.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Meade DSX-90 Altazimuth-Cassegrain telescope

Step1
Set the telescope in the home position.

Step2
Be sure that Autostar is correctly connected to your telescope.

Step3
Turn on the power.

Step4
Enter the time and date.

Step5
Press "Mode" and "Setup Align" will display.

Step6
Use the "Scroll Down" key to find "Setup Targets" and press "Enter."

Step7
You will now see "Targets Terrestrial." Choose either of the scroll keys at once.

Step8
"Targets Astronomical" will now be on your display.

Step9
Use the arrow keys to find an object using the viewfinder to line up the object.

Step10
Press "Enter" and then select "Astronomical."

Tips & Warnings

  • After completing Step 10, you will hear the telescope's motors as they begin tracking. Once you hear the motors, check to make sure the object is still aligned.
  • If you would like to track another object, use the arrow keys to move the telescope to that object. Once the object is centered, the tracking motors will then track the new object.
