How to Use a Nintendo DS Lite for the First Time

      Take the Nintendo DS Lite out of the packaging. Examine the unit for flaws or breakage. Pay careful attention to the condition of the screens.

      Fill out the warranty information card and put it in the mail. If you received rebate coupons or promotional deals that you have to mail in, send them off with the warranty registration.

      Find the AC adapter and charge the battery in the Nintendo DS Lite. Wait about 4 hours for the battery to become fully charged.

      Use the charging time to become familiar with the layout of the DS Lite. Note the location of buttons, screens and other controls.

      Turn on the Nintendo DS Lite once it is fully charged. You will need to set the screen language. Either use the stylus to select the language you prefer or use the direction control pad to choose the language.

      Pick a nickname and a color for the screen. Set the time and date. You can also put in your birthday. After you have finished, the DS Lite will turn off and store these settings.
