You can use iTunes to play CDs, but if you want to transfer those songs to your iPod or share songs with other people using iTunes on their computer, you first need to import your CD or selected songs from a CD to iTunes. The following steps make it very easy to copy music from a CD into iTunes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open iTunes.

  2. Step 2

Insert your audio CD into your computer.

Click on the CD name in the Source list. (This shows a list of songs on that CD.)

  4. Step 4

Uncheck any songs you don't want to import to iTunes.

  5. Step 5

    Click "Import CD."

  6. Step 6

iTunes you will now copy the selected songs from the CD to your iTunes Library.

  7. Step 7

Once all of the songs are imported, click "Eject Disc."

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't import all of the songs from a CD, you can always go back later and import the rest.
  • If you are importing a lot of CDs into iTunes, there are two steps you can set to automatic rather than perform manually each time. First, you can set iTunes to automatically import songs as soon as you insert a CD. Second, you can set iTunes to automatically eject your CD when the import is finished. To do this, open iTunes "Preferences," click "Advanced," then click the "Importing" tab. On the "CD Insert" pop-up menu, select "Import Songs and Eject."
  • Be very careful not to delete any of your iTunes files. Doing this could cause you to lose music you've already imported, saved or purchased. It can also affect whether you can import more music in the future and could mean having to re-install iTunes.
