Your battery in your Nintendo DS will only last so long. After a while, it will need to be replaced. How do you replace it? Here is the easy way to replace the battery in a Nintendo DS.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Nintendo DS
  • Battery

Step1
Get your owner's manual out, an important and often overlooked step. If you have all the information at your disposal, your task will be easier.
Step2
Determine if your battery needs to be replaced. How do you know? Well, your battery only lasts about 500 charges. This number is a good gauge to figure out when the battery is almost ready to die. Also, is the battery taking longer and longer to charge? Is it dying more often? Then you might need to replace it.
Step3
Buy your battery. By consulting the owner's manual, you will know what kind of battery to get for your system. Make sure to only buy a Nintendo battery. If you get the wrong battery, it may harm your Nintendo DS and void the warranty.
Step4
Discharge any static before opening the battery cover. It is always a good idea to touch a piece of metal to make sure that you have no static electricity built up when you are opening an electronic device, as it may damage the electronics inside.
Step5
Open the back cover. Observe how the old battery is connected before you remove it. Replace the new battery in the same fashion that you removed the old battery.
Step6
Dispose of the battery properly. Call your local solid waste authority. They will be able to give you information on disposing your old battery responsibly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your receipt for the new battery in case there is a problem with it.
  • You can’t reuse an old battery once it has been removed from the system.
