How to Synchronize a Treo Smartphone using a USB Connection
Synchronizing allows you to update your Treo wmartphone and computer without having to enter the same information twice. It's also a good way to back-up the information on your Treo wmartphone and computer so that nothing is lost when accidents occur. Using a USB connection is the fastest way to transfer data to your computer from your Treo smartphone. Follow these steps to synchronize a Treo smartphone using a USB connection.

Install the Palm Desktop tool on your computer. You will find this program on the Palm Software Installation CD bundled with your Treo smartphone.

Make sure that the HotSync manager is active on your computer by checking for the HotSync icon in the lower right corner of your screen. If it's not active, you can turn the HotSync manager on by going to Start > Programs > Palm > HotSync.

Connect your AC adapter to a wall outlet. Plug your USB sync cable into a USB port on your computer.

Face your sync button upwards and connect it to the bottom of your Treo smartphone. Do not press the "Sync" button yet. Connect the charger's cable to the connector on your sync cable.

Press the "Sync" button on your sync cable. Your Treo smartphone may become unusable for a few minutes as it synchronizes with your computer. Wait for the process to finish. You will know synchronization is complete when a message appears at the top of your Treo smartphone's screen.

Tips & Warnings
Even if you have already installed the version of Palm Desktop that came another Palm OS device and, you must still install the software on the Palm Software Installation CD that came with your Treo smartphone.
You will need to install the software on the Palm Software Installation CD if you want to synchronize with Microsoft Office or any third-party software.
Never synchronize two devices with the same device name on your computer, as doing so may cause a conflict that will make both devices unusable.
If you own another Palm OS device other than your Treo smartphone, never try to synchronize both devices with your computer at the same time. The two Palm OS devices could conflict with each other and cause you to lose information.
