How to Find a Person in "World of Warcraft"

With over 10 million "World of Warcraft" (WoW) subscribers as of November 2014, manually finding that one dwarf priest you need for your guild's "Classy Dwarves" achievement is a herculean task. WoW supplies players with a tool that lets you quickly look up other players in-game: the "/who" command. Using this command and a few filters, you can track down exactly who you're looking for in just a few seconds.

Refined Searches Using Filters

By typing "/who" without quotes or filters into the chat box, you get a list of up to 49 nearby people of different races, levels and classes. Adding a few keywords as filters increases the search's precision. You can add filters for what zone someone is in, their name, race, class, level, guild name and even what server they're on. For example, if you're looking for a level 100 priest on your server, you can type the following:

/who 100 Priest

This produces a list of not only level 100 priests, but also anyone with "Priest" or "100" in their name or guild name.

Advanced Filter Tags

Simple filters aren't perfect, and the the fewer you use, the more varied your results will be. To further refine your search and return only relevant search results, use special tags: "n" for name, "g" for guild name, "z" for zone, "r" for race, "c" for class and "s" for server. Here's an example of the above search, refined using these tags:

/who 100 c-"Priest"

This command will filter out anyone who isn't a level 100 priest, even if their name or guild name contains "Priest."
