How to Perform a Soft Reset on an HP iPAQ

Performing a soft reset on an HP iPAQ is often the quickest and cleanest way to clear up a crowded work screen. If too many applications are running, or some application is clashing with another, you can perform a soft reset to close all running applications and restart your HP iPAQ cleanly.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the instruction/owner's manual to locate the reset button and learn about what a soft reset entails. Basically, it will close all programs and erase the program's memory for a restart of your device.

    • 2

Try closing programs or otherwise altering the setup of your HP iPAQ in some way to resolve the problem. If you can find out what caused the necessity for a soft reset, you can avoid it in the future.

    • 3

Use your stylus, if you still need to perform a soft reset, to press in the reset button on your HP iPAQ. Depending on your model, it will be located either on the side or the back of the device, and is distinguishable as a small hole into which your stylus fits.

If your iPAQ does not restart, check to see that the battery is secure, or plug it into an AC power source and try to power on again.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you soft reset often, download a soft-reset program which will add a soft reset/power off icon to your startup screen to make it more convenient and to have less wear and tear on your reset button.

  • If your soft resets are occurring frequently, you should consider performing a hard reset. If there is a problem that is causing your device to slow or freeze regularly, a hard reset will wipe your memory clean of the problem by returning the iPAQ to factory condition.

So not helpful. I if I had the owner's manual, I wouldn't be reading this. Total waste of search result space.
