You synchronize a Dell Axim with a computer to save yourself the work of having to transfer all of the files back and forth between your handheld PC and your desktop computer. Synchronization lets you keep both the Axim and your computer current while the Axim recharges its battery. Follow these steps to synchronize a Dell Axim with a computer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plug the AC adapter for your Dell Axim into a working outlet and then connect the power cable to the cradle.

  2. Step 2

Insert your Dell Axim into the cradle. Make sure that the cradle/sync cable connector on the bottom of the Axim is seated firmly in the cradle.

  3. Step 3

Use the USB sync cable to hook the cradle and your desktop computer together. Consider unplugging USB devices that you do not use while synchronizing when you need an open USB port.

  4. Step 4

Open “ActiveSync” on your desktop computer. Click on the “Sync” button to start the process. You can monitor the progress of the synchronization with the status display.

  5. Step 5

Update the information on your desktop computer or Dell Axim to keep both of your computers up to date.

  6. Step 6

Wait for the charge light to indicate a full charge. Remove the Dell Axim from the cradle and use. Pull straight up on the Axim to remove it from the charger.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that ActiveSync is installed on your desktop computer before you attempt to connect and sync your Axim to your computer for the first time.
  • While the Dell Axim is in the cradle, it begins a charge cycle. This does not affect the synchronization process in any way.
  • ActiveSync does not automatically back up or save every type of information. You must select the folders that are automatically checked when you dock the Dell Axim in the cradle. You can add files and folders to the automatic sync list in the “Options” menu.
  • Do not leave the Dell Axim in the cradle for long periods of time. A couple of hours is fine and is what the Dell Axim is designed for. A couple of days in the cradle is not good on the device or the rechargeable battery.
