You can skip the cradle and synchronize a Dell Axim using the USB cable, otherwise known as the synchronization cable, to directly hook into your desktop computer. The sync cable has a USB connector on one end and a multi-pin connector on the other that fits the cradle sync port on the Dell Axim. You can sync straight to the computer with this cable, and have the option to add an AC adapter into the mix if you want. Follow these steps to synchronize a Dell Axim using the USB cable.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plug the sync cable into the cradle/sync cable connector port on the bottom of your Dell Axim. When using the original sync cable, orient the connector end so that the Dell logo is facing up.

  2. Step 2

Take the USB end of the sync cable and plug it into a free USB port on your desktop computer. Monitor the progress of the synchronization using the on-screen display on your desktop computer.

  3. Step 3

Add files manually to the synchronization process by dragging files from the Axim to the desktop. You will need to create a file on your desktop to receive these files.

  4. Step 4

Confirm the back up process before disconnecting the Axim from the computer. Look in your desktop computer under Outlook, Favorites and any folders that you have selected to receive data from your Axim and make sure that you are seeing the files that are supposed to be there.

Tips & Warnings
  • ActiveSync must be installed on your desktop computer before you can synchronize the Dell Axim with information on your desktop.
  • The sync cable connector has two locking tabs that hold the connector in place once it is hooked up to your Dell Axim. Squeeze these tabs when you disconnect to avoid damage to the cable or the connector port.
  • The AC adapter can be hooked up to the sync cable so that you can charge up the Dell Axim even though you are not using the cradle.
  • Do not go for long periods of time without syncing up the information in your desktop to the data stored on your Dell Axim. Keep your records backed up and current.
