In order to truly exploit its capabilities, you need to set up email on an HP iPAQ. Once you have the email feature set up, you can check your messages from anywhere you have an Internet connection. If you are able to sign on to a wireless network, you can check your email without plugging in to a computer. You will never be out of touch again once you set up email on an HP iPAQ.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get an Internet connection set up on your HP iPAQ. You will need a modem card to do this independently, or you can use the Bluetooth or wireless networking features to connect to a network that has Internet access.

  2. Step 2

Get to the "Start" menu and select the "Inbox". You can access the "Start" menu from the "Today" screen, which comes up each time you turn on the Hewlett Packard iPAQ.

  3. Step 3

Tap the "Services" tab and open a list of service options. Use your stylus to choose "New Services".

  4. Step 4

Enter your email address using the touch screen keyboard. Confirm the address by tapping the "Next" button.

  5. Step 5

Enter the incoming email address of your service provider in the provided space. You may need to get online with your desktop to find this information.

  6. Step 6

Enter the outgoing email address of your email service provider. Confirm this entry by clicking on the "Next" button.

  7. Step 7

Choose the protocol that you will be using with your email. Most Internet service providers use either IMAP or POP3 to handle email sent or received by your HP iPAQ.

  8. Step 8

Confirm your choices and start using your email on the HP iPAQ.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can get help setting up your email at any time by tapping on the"Help" button. Depending on your model of iPAQ, this might be represented by a question mark icon.
  • The HP iPAQ does not automatically deliver email attachments to your inbox. You will need to set the options in ActiveSync so that attachments are available on the handheld unit.
  • Until you set up the email inbox on your HP iPAQ you will not be able to send and receive email messages.
