Know your storage options. The one drawback to using your Dell Axim as a music player is the fact that with the limited memory of a PocketPC, you will run out of storage space rather quickly. Unlike your PC, you will not be able to store gigabytes of music on your PocketPC.

Familiarize yourself with file conversion. File conversion programs, some of which can be downloaded for free, can convert large media formats into smaller media formats. These smaller music files might sacrifice a fraction of the sound quality, but will eat up less of your Axim's memory.

Purchase a memory card. Memory cards offer the most logical solution to the memory/storage dilemma. The Dell Axim is compatible with Flash and Secure Digital memory cards. After inserting the memory card into its slot, you can access the information written on an SD or CF card, click on the Start menu. From the Start menu, access Programs and then File Explorer.

Download the appropriate media player. Windows Media Player comes pre-installed on your Dell Axim. Shop around for the best deal on a memory card with a lot of storage space. These cards are on sale in clearance aisles in department and electronics stores everywhere.
Play lists can be easily shared and transferred from one device to another if the music files are stored on a memory card. All you have to do is remove the card from one device and insert it into another.
Illegally downloading music is not advised. Do not store illegally downloaded music in your Axim.
