Today’s technology advances at exponential rates. Devices that were state of the art one year are borderline obsolete the next. But despite the rapid evolution of computer technology, the physical matter of these devices remains the same. Plastic and glass make up most of the body of your iPAQ PocketPC. While neither of these two substances offers the device any real protection, some areas are vastly weaker than others. There are a number of easy steps you can take on a daily basis that will ensure that you keep your HP iPAQ in working condition.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • HP iPAQ
  • Cleaning cloth

Step1
Avoid placing a great deal of pressure on your iPAQ. This includes sitting and stepping on the device. Also, placing the device in your pants pocket is a bad idea, as your different leg movements and positions can place a lot of compressed tension on the iPAQ.
Step2
Carry the iPAQ in a purse, bag or briefcase. These storage containers allow you to carry the iPAQ around with you while keeping it out of the compressed confines of your clothing. Transporting your PocketPC in a bag or briefcase also limit your risk of dropping it.
Step3
Store your iPAQ in a protective case. When you are not using your iPAQ, make sure that it is closed and placed in a protective case. HP offers a wide variety of case designs for you to choose from. The case adds the first and last line of defense in the event of the PocketPC falling into harm’s way.
Step4
Avoid dropping your iPAQ. Any sort of impact or collision can cause severe damage to the device. Avoid situations where the iPAQ might bang against the wall or hard surface.
Step5
Regularly clean the iPAQ. This keeps the oily build up from constant human contact from getting inside the keyboard. Clean the screen and the outer casing of the PocketPC with a soft moistened cloth. The cloth should not be made of paper products and should not be soaked with water.
Step6
Avoid abusing the stylus. Mind the amount of pressure you inflict with your stylus. They are only meant to absorb small amounts of impact. When the stylus breaks, contact HP and order another one.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you plan to travel with your iPAQ, take along backup disks of all of your stored information, in case it is lost or damaged.
  • When cleaning, do not spray water or any liquid directly onto the screen or exterior of the Pocket PC. Wet the cloth and use it to clean the iPAQ.
  • HP claims no responsibility for damages mentioned in the iPAQ owner’s manual. Read the manual so that you can understand what steps you can take to avoid these particular damages.
