Archive.org is building an Internet library to preserve and make files available to the general public. The Archive includes not only texts but also audio, videos, archived Web pages and much more. To make your podcast a part of these archives, just follow the steps below.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sign up for a membership at Archive. It's free and easy. An on screen name (your ID), a password, and your email address are all that's required.

  2. Step 2

Once you have your membership, log in to your account at Archive.

  3. Step 3

You can now start to upload your podcast to Archive.

  4. Step 4

You will need to create a name for your "item;" that's your podcast in this case.

  5. Step 5

Next you will have the option of choosing an upload method. You can select Internet Explorer or your own FTP program.

  6. Step 6

Using the Windows Internet Explorer option, click to open an FTP window in your browser. Note: If you are using a pop-up blocker you will need to disable that or allow pop-ups on the Archive site.

  7. Step 7

Now enter your Archive password. Then you can drag and drop your podcast files into the browser window.

  8. Step 8

Once your upload is complete, make sure you click on the file in your directory named "CLICK_HERE_WHEN_FINISHED.htm."

  9. Step 9

Your podcast is now part of the Archives.

Tips & Warnings
  • When entering a name for your podcast, you can use letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. However, the name must start with a letter or number and can contain no spaces. The name of your podcast can be 5 to 50 characters.
  • Upload your podcast files directly to your directory on Archive, not into folders within the directory.
  • Archive is very helpful and the directions on site are simple to follow step by step.
  • Do not upload zip files to Archive.org. You must upload individual files.
  • If you forget to click on the "Click here when finished" link in your directory, your podcast will not be available for the next 48 hours.
