Ever get the feeling you are being watched? Spyware on your computer allows third parties and others to collect data from your computer about where you go online, what you like and what you do. The information gathered can be sent directly to the individuals collecting or be stored on the computer for future access. It can be installed with or without the computer users consent. If you suspect you have spyware on your computer, the steps below can help you remove it from your computer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Disconnect the infested computer from all networks, like the Internet. When possible, use removable software in this process to that any new install is clean.
Step2
Back up any good files that you may want to save.
Step3
Use a utility like Safe Mode to stop the spyware from running. This is helpful because some spyware is self-running also know as auto starting. There are free programs that can assist with this step.
Step4
Check "My Network Places." Delete anything you do not recognize or the name looks suspect.
Step5
Re-boot back to Safe Mode. Review again for any other errors/viruses, in addition to spyware.
Step6
Go to "Add/Remove" in your control panel and begin to delete spyware.
Step7
Set up a firewall program and get it running.
Step8
Log on the Internet and scan the hard disk for any possible viruses or missed spyware.
Step9
Reboot your system and check for anything you may have missed.
