The technology of a pocket PC makes it convenient for people who need to take data with them everywhere. The Treo Smartphone is a brand of cell phone combined with a pocket PC that does exactly that. A person can take their Treo Smartphone with them all day and then come home and transfer all the data that they have accumulated onto their home computer. This may sound difficult, but it is rather simple to synchronize a Treo Smartphone with your regular home computer. Follow these steps to synchronize information on a Treo Smartphone to a computer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Treo Smartphone
Step1
Download and install Microsoft’s ActiveSync software to your home computer. You can do this by going to Microsoft’s Web site and follow the directions there. This is the best program for this type of application.
Step2
Connect your Treo Smartphone to your home computer via USB cable, which is sometimes called a sync cable. Make sure the ends correspond to their intended entry points before jamming them in and possibly causing damage to your equipment.
Step3
Allow the two devices to communicate with each other. The synchronization occurs automatically. There is no need to do anything while the devices are being synchronized.
Step4
Start the synchronization process manually if it does not start automatically. To do this, click on the start menu which is usually at the bottom left corner of the screen. From that menu, choose “Programs” and then “Microsoft ActiveSync” from there. Finally, choose the “Sync” option to begin synchronizing.
Step5
Unplug the USB cable from your Treo Smartphone and your personal computer. Follow your computer’s guidelines for unplugging hardware from the USB port to prevent loss of data.

Tips & Warnings

  • Synchronizing is useful for working on either device and keeping the information consistent between them. It saves time and trouble.
  • With advanced hardware and software, you can synchronize your Treo Smartphone with your home computer remotely, meaning the two devices do not need to be in the same vicinity in order for them to be synchronized.
  • Be certain that your USB or sync cords are plugged in properly. Otherwise, you will get an error message when you try to attempt synchronization.
  • Unplugging the USB cord from your computer without following the manufacturer’s guidelines could result in either damage or loss of data. Refer to the “Safely Remove Hardware” section of the owner’s manual for your personal computer.
  • Check to make sure there is enough memory on both devices. You could lose data if there is not sufficient memory available.
