Open Notepad. Write out the following information, taking a new line for each new section of information: your blog's Web address; your blog's email address; your blog's title, plus between five and ten alternative titles; and a description of your blog in three different lengths (for example, a description of 150 to 200 words, a description of 100 to 150 words and a description of 50 to 100 words). Save this file with a meaningful title and keep it on hand. It will save considerable time as you will refer to it for every directory submission you make.
Step2
Go to the Info Vilesilencer Web site (see Resources). Here you will find a large list of search engine optimization-friendly directories. These are the places where you will submit your blog. The directories that accept your blog will give you a link back.
Step3
Scroll down the page of the Info Vilesilencer Web site and click on the first directory link. It will open in a new window.
Step4
Check the Google PR value (see Tips below) of the directory by copying the directory Web address and pasting it into the "Check Domain" field on Google's PageRank site (see Resources). If you already have the Google toolbar installed on your browser, you can skip this step as the toolbar will tell you the PR value automatically.
Step5
Make a note of the directory Web address and its PR value along with the current date. You can do this in a spreadsheet, in Word, in Notepad or even on a sheet of paper. This is your record of the directories you have submitted to along with the PR and the date.
Step6
Look on the directory home page for information on how to submit a site. Every directory is different, though many employ a similar method. You may have to browse to the category that best suits your blog where you will find a link named something like "Suggest a Site." This will take you to a form to fill in.
Step7
Fill in the form using the information file prepared in Step 1.
Step8
Click the "Submit" button.
Step9
Repeat Steps 1 to 8 as many times as you can, as long as you have directories to which to submit your information.
Tips & Warnings
Bear in mind that not all links are created equal. A link with a high PageRank or PR value (a ranking system used by Google) is more valuable than a link from a low PR page. Additionally, a link from a page that is focused on the same theme as your page is more valuable in the eyes of the search engines than one from a page that has links to many different themes. In short, choose your links wisely.
Write your blog descriptions as an observer. Don't use superlatives such as "best" or "brilliant." Be descriptive and present your blog honestly. For example, "An informative step-by-step blog on how to train your parrot."
When writing alternative titles for your blog in Step 1, use suitable keywords in the title, if possible.
Don't submit to more than about 20 directories a day. This is a "natural" amount of submissions, and it will not cause any concern to any of the search engines.
If you search for other links to your blog, be sure that they are not what Google calls "bad neighborhoods." Try to avoid sites with a PR of zero. Directory sites found at the Info Vilesilencer Web site with a PR of zero can generally be trusted (see Resources), though those with a higher PR will be much more beneficial in the long run.
Don't expect to get a reply from every directory you submit to. Some will reply, some won't. You can expect an acceptance rate of about 70 percent for a well-prepared submission, though this will take a few weeks to happen.
Don't include any advertising on your blog before submitting to the directories. AdSense or affiliate ads can be added once the blog is included in all the directories that are going to include it. This can take up to one month to happen.
