How to Back Up Data on a Dell Axim to a Computer

You can use ActiveSync software to back up the data on a Dell Axim to a computer. Follow these steps.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Dell Axim
  1. Step 1

    Install ActiveSync. Simply insert the installation CD into your computer and follow the on-screen instructions.

  2. Step 2

    Connect your Dell Axim to the computer and launch ActiveSync.

  3. Step 3

    Open the “Tools” menu and select “Backup/Restore.”

  4. Step 4

    Select the option for “Full Backup.” Click “Backup Now.”

  5. Step 5

    Be patient. Full backups can take awhile. Wait for a “Backup Complete” message, then click “OK.”

  6. Step 6

    To restore, open the "Tools" menu from Step 3, but click the “Restore” tab.

  7. Step 7

    Click “Restore Now” and select the backup file.

  8. Step 8

    Read the warning and click “Restore.”

  9. Step 9

    Disconnect your Dell Axim and restart it. Be sure to wait until restoration is complete before disconnecting.

Tips & Warnings
  • Incremental backups are quicker, but you’ll have to do a full backup initially.
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections are faster than USB and IR.
  • Back up often. When you restore, you lose all data that wasn't backed up recently.
  • Your Dell Axim must have the same model number, language and regional settings as it did when you backed it up in order to restore.
