How to Start a Blog on Your GeoCities Web Site

Blogging or Web journaling is a quick and easy way to stay in touch with your friends and family. With a click of a mouse and the stroke of a key you can share your thoughts with people half a world away. Follow these steps to start a blog on your GeoCities Web site.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • GeoCities account
  1. Step 1

    Login to your Yahoo! Geocities account via their home page. Type in your ID and password.

  2. Step 2

    Go to the “Create and Update” tab of the GeoCities control panel. This will take you to a screen with several options on way to improve your Web site.

  3. Step 3

    Click “Yahoo! 360”. This will allow you to start setting up your blog. If you do not have a Yahoo! 360 account, which is available to any Yahoo! member, you will have to sign up for one.

  4. Step 4

    Choose how you want to set up your blog. Your choices are standard and custom.

  5. Step 5

    Fill in your nickname, title and blog description. Your nickname will appear on all of your entries as well as when you comment on other people’s blogs.

  6. Step 6

    Decide where on your site you would like to place your blog. You will be given the option to make it your home page or leave it somewhere on the site.

  7. Step 7

    Review the Yahoo! terms and usage agreement. If you agree with the terms, click the box and click the button marked "Activate."

  8. Step 8

    Now start writing and sharing your thoughts and ideas with the blogosphere.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your blog nickname is something you can deal with on a daily basis.
  • When operating a blog, always remember, unless you make the blog private it is publicly available.
  • Do not put personal information such as addresses and phone numbers in your blog. Keep your identity protected at all times.
