Uploading sound files to your GeoCities Web page is not a chore when you take advantage of the Easy Upload feature. If you have ever made attachments to an email using your Yahoo! account, the Easy Upload tool will look very familiar. Follow these steps to use GeoCities Easy Upload to upload sound files.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • GeoCities account

Step1
Get to the "GeoCities Control Panel" page, open the “Create and Update” tab and choose “Easy Upload” from the options listed in the “File Management Tools” pane.
Step2
Browse through the files on your computer. This opens a “Choose File” window that displays the contents of your computer’s memory.
Step3
Look for common sound file extensions such as .midi, .mp3 or .wav. If you have removable storage devices such as flash drives or CD’s, insert them into your computer if they have sound files you want to use.
Step4
Select a sound file and click the “Open” button at the bottom of the “Choose File” window. The selected filename will appear over on the Easy Upload window in one of the boxes. Use the “Add More Files” button if you need to upload more than five sound files.
Step5
Click the “Upload Files” button when you have selected all of the sound files you wish to upload. After the computer finishes, you will be directed to a results page where you can find out if there where any problems with the upload. If the any of your files display a message other than “Uploaded successfully,” you have some re-working to do.

Tips & Warnings

  • Want a shortcut to the GeoCities Easy Upload page? Try this: http://geocities.yahoo.com/v/ul.html.
  • Sound files tend to be larger than text files. Check the total upload size as you add more sound files to the batch. If you have more than 5 MB of files, use two or more separate uploads to get everything you want on the Internet.
  • Remove the spaces between words in filenames to avoid the “Invalid filename” result. Use dashes between the words like this: uncle_bills_noises.
  • If you use the “Clear” button, you will get rid of all the filenames that you have browsed so far, not just the one that you don’t want to upload. This is only a problem if you have three or four sound files ready to go and then you change your mind.
