GeoCities offers the Easy Upload feature so that you can get the images you want on your site with the least hassle possible. Image files are attached to your site in a manner similar to creating an attachment for an email. Follow these steps to use GeoCities Easy Upload to upload images.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • GeoCities account
  1. Step 1

Turn on, sign in and navigate to the Easy Upload page. This page has five spaces to receive file names and each space has a “Browse” button located beside it. Click “Browse” to open your computer’s hard drive.

  2. Step 2

Search the folders and documents saved to your computer’s hard drive using the “Choose File” window until you find the image file you want to upload. Click on this file.

  3. Step 3

Find the “Open” button at the bottom of the “Choose File” window. When you click on this, the file name appears in a box on the Easy Upload window. You can add more spaces for filenames if needed.

  4. Step 4

Click the “Upload Files” button when you have chosen all of the images you want Easy Upload to take to your page. Allow the computer some time to work. Do not disconnect from the Internet before the images are finished uploading.

  5. Step 5

Look at the results page that is displayed after the computer finishes up. The status of each of your image uploads is paired with a message regarding its status. “Uploaded successfully” is what you want to see, otherwise you need to troubleshoot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Common extensions for image files look like this: “.jpeg,” “.gif” or “.pct”.
  • If you change your mind about uploading an image or even any images at all, you can opt out by clicking on the “Cancel” button. This wipes out all the file names in all of your boxes.
  • Even if you are using high-speed Internet access, your upload speed may be significantly slower than your download speed. Multi-task while you are waiting and dust off your computer.
  • Easy Upload features automatic options that change the filenames. If you are having trouble uploading a file, try once with the automatics turned on and again with them turned off.
  • Change the filenames of the image files on your computer before uploading. Take out any spaces between words. If you do not, you will see this message on the results page again and again: “Invalid filename.”
  • Easy Upload will not upload a batch of image files whose size is greater than 5 MB. Break up your uploading task into smaller jobs to get the images you want on your site.
