GeoCities provides Web design beginners a chance to develop their skills by making everything as simple as possible. The Easy Upload feature allows a budding Web page editor to snag HTML files from the computer and get them online for the whole world to see. Follow these steps to use GeoCities Easy Upload to upload HTML files.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • GeoCities account
  1. Step 1

Click the “Create and Update” tab on the "GeoCities Control Panel" page. Scroll down to “File Management Tools” and select “Easy Upload”.

  2. Step 2

Click the “Browse” button to look through files stored on your computer. Navigate through your folders and documents using the “Choose File” window until you find the HTML file you want to upload. Select this file.

  3. Step 3

Click the “Open” button at the bottom of the “Choose File” window. The file name appears in a box on the "Easy Upload" window. You have five boxes to fill and you can use the “Add More Files” button to pile more in the upload.

  4. Step 4

Click “Upload Files” when finished choosing HTML files. When the computer is finished working you will be sent to a "Results" page.

  5. Step 5

Check the status of your upload. Each file you tried to upload will be displayed along with a message regarding the uploading process. If all of your files say “Uploaded successfully,” then you are finished.

Tips & Warnings
  • Just to be clear, an HTML file has an extension that looks like this: “.html”.
  • Once you have been through the process a couple of times you might want to get to the Easy Upload page right away. Here is the shortcut to get to the Easy Upload page: http://geocities.yahoo.com/v/ul.html.
  • Use the “Clear” button if you change your mind about uploading an HTML file. A word of caution, this clears all of the files you have selected in this upload batch, not just the one you don’t want.
  • Check the automatic options at the bottom of the Easy Upload window to change all filenames to lower case letters or convert extensions from “.htm” to “.html.”
  • File names cannot have any spaces in them, otherwise you will get the “Invalid filename” message on the Results page. Put dashes in between words to get rid of the spaces, like this: test_upload_time.
  • The maximum upload size is 5 MB. Pay attention to the sizes of the HTML files you are uploading and break them into smaller batches if needed.
