How to Upload a JPEG with GeoCities File Manager

When you have a Geocities Web site, you can make it a perfect representation of yourself. A really good way to do that is to add pictures to your site. One type of picture file is a JPEG file. Here is how to upload a JPEG with Geocities File Manager.

Things You’ll Need:

• Internet access
• Computer
• Geocities account

1. Locate the JPEG picture file you want to put on your site. Make sure you have it saved to your computer in an easy-to-access place. Remember the name of your file for later.
2. Visit the GeoCities Web site and log on to your account.
3. Look for the purple "Create and Update" tab on your home page. It will turn from light purple to dark purple when clicked.
4. Look for the "File Management Tools" section. It will be almost all the way down at the bottom of the page. There you will find your File Manager.
5. Click on your "File Manager" button. When that page opens, click "Open File Manager." Your File Manager will open and that is where all your files are held for your Web site.
6. Look for the "Upload Files" button. This will be partway down the page in the right-hand corner over your file names.
7. Click on the "Upload Files" button. Now you are at a place where you can upload files. There are blank spaces where the file name will show up after you find it.
8. Find the "Browse" button next to the first blank space. This is where you need to know the name of your JPEG file. Look for the file on your computer.
9. Repeat the last two steps for every file you need to upload. Use the "Add More Files" button if you need to upload more than five files. This will allow you to upload more files.
10. Click "Upload files" button. Wait until you see the message that says "Upload Successful." This will be given when your file is in the system.

Tips & Warnings

• When you first start File Manager, have all the different kinds of file types clicked. This way you can access all your files.
• It is helpful to make special folder on your desktop to save your pictures for your site. This way, they will be easily accessible.
• Do not go over your allowable file limit. Each service plan has its own limit, so check your plan to find out how much you have.
