Making your little corner of the Web uniquely yours is as easy as adding a few pictures. To add a GIF picture file to your Geocities Web site, you first have to upload that file to your File Manager. Follow these simple steps to upload a GIF file to your File Manager.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • Geocities account
Step1
Find the picture you want to add to your site and save it in an easy-to-find place on your computer, such as the desktop. Take note of the name of the file that you want to upload.
Step2
Go to the GeoCities Web site. From there you need to either log on to your account or make a new account. Accounts are easy to set up.
Step3
Click on the "Create and Update" Tab. It will be a light purple tab on your homepage. After you click it, it will become dark purple.
Step4
Scroll down the page. You will want to go almost all the way to the bottom of the page. Under the heading "File Management Tools" you will see your File Manager.
Step5
Click the “File Manager” button. Then click “Open File Manager.” This will take you into the place where all the files you can use on your Web page are held.
Step6
Scroll down the page again. This time you are looking for the "Upload Files" button. It is gray and at the top of the file list.
Step7
Click the "Upload Files" button. This is going to make sure that you are in the right place to get your file. You will see five blank spaces where the file names go.
Step8
Click the "Browse" button next to the first blank space. This is where knowing where your GIF file is will come in handy. Look around for the file on your computer.
Step9
Repeat the upload steps for every file you want to upload. If you need more than five files, use the “Add more files" button. This will give you more space to upload to.
Step10
Now click "Upload files" button. Make sure you see the message that says "Upload Successful." Then you will know that your GIF file is at your disposal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure when you first launch File Manager, you have all the file types checked. It is the default setting, but to ensure that you can view all your files, have them all selected.
  • It might be a good idea to have a separate folder on your desktop just for storing pictures you want to add to your Web site. This way they are easy to find.
  • Do not try to upload more files than you have the space for on your Web site. Check your plan details to see how much space you have.
