You have files saved to your Geocities File Manager. If you want to make changes, you can edit them pretty simply. Here are the steps to editing your HTML page with Geocities File Manager.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
Step1
Go to the GeoCities Web site. Open your Web browser and type the address in the address bar. Hit enter and you are there.
Step2
Log on to your Geocities account. You will see the "Sign In" link at the top of the page. Click that and there is a place to enter your screen name and password.
Step3
Click on the purple "Create and Update" tab. When the tab is open, it will turn a darker shade of purple. Scroll down the page.
Step4
Find the "File Management Tools" section (it is almost at the bottom of the page). That is the section where your File Manager will be. Click the link to it and a new page will open. Another link, "‘Open File Manager" and you are there.
Step5
Locate the page you want to edit. Click the little white box next to the name. A check mark will appear in the box. Now look for the "Edit" button, and when you click it, the file will open so you can edit it.
Step6
Name the file. Remember no special characters or spaces can be used in naming your file. The white box at the top of the html box is where you input the name. You cannot save your work without a name.
Step7
Click the gray "Preview" button to see what the file looks like. Your preview appears at the top of the page.
Step8
Save your work. This is your final step. It is also very important. If you don’t click the "Save" button, your work will be lost.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some Web sites offer iinvaluable help with html.
  • The file name must end with .htm or .html.
  • If you break up existing blocks of html, your page will not work correctly.
  • Be careful when you edit your html, because when you start adding and taking things away, you can’t go back. It might be a good idea to save a copy of the original html as a word document.
