To keep all of your files in one place for your Geocities Web site, there is a File Manager. Just about anything you need to do to your files, you can do it here. Here are just a few steps to delete a file using your Geocities File Manager.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Open your Internet browser. Click on the address bar. Visit the GeoCities Web site and locate the Geocities home page.

  2. Step 2

Click "Sign-In"' at the top of the page. This will direct you to the place where you can put your screen name and password. If you don't have an account, click "Sign-Up" under the "Don't Have a Yahoo! ID" banner.

  3. Step 3

Locate the "Create and Update" tab on your startup page. It should be towards the top of the page and will be light purple. As soon as you click on it, the tab will become dark purple. This is the section where File Manager is located.

  4. Step 4

Look for a subsection named "File Management Tools." You will have scroll down the page to find it. Inside that section is the link to your File Manager. As soon as you click on "File Manager," another page will open. Click "Open File Manager." Now you are in your file manager.

  5. Step 5

Find the file that you are going to delete. File names are on the right hand side of the page. Just scroll up and down until you locate the right file.

  6. Step 6

Click the little box next to the file name. Once you click it, a little check mark will appear in the box. As soon as you click the box, scroll up the page and find the gray "Delete" button. It is to the right of the "Copy and Rename" buttons. You can also look at the bottom of the page; there is an identical set of buttons down there that perform the same functions.

  7. Step 7

Click the "Delete" button. A new window will open and ask if you are sure that you want to delete this file. Now, just click "Delete Files" and you are done. The file is deleted from your storage when you see the message that looks like this: filename.jpg.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are not sure which file you want to delete, use the view button next to the file name on the right. This will allow you to look at the file and make sure it is the right one.
  • You can delete as many files at one time as you want. Just click the boxes next to file names and select the "Delete" button.
  • Make sure that you have a backup copy of the file on your computer. Once you delete the file, it will be completely gone from the server. If you don't have a backup, you will no longer have the file.
