How to Use GeoCities File Manager

Yahoo’s Geocities capabilities were the precursor to the popular MySpace online community. With Geocities, a person can create their own unique Web page and publish it for anybody to see. Within the Geocities pages, a person has access to the files and components that they can either add or take away from the public view of the page. This is a short guide on how to effectively use the Geocities file manager. Follow these steps to use GeoCities file manager.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • Yahoo account
  1. Step 1

    Log on to your Yahoo Geocities personal page. This is usually done by logging in to your Yahoo account with your username and password.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the "Create and Update" tab from the next screen shown. You can also get there from the "Manage" or "Index" tabs.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the "File Manager" link from either of the abovementioned tabs. This will take you to the File Manager screen.

  4. Step 4

    Choose what you want to do from this page. There are several options for you to make changes within your Geocities page.

  5. Step 5

    Make the changes you want to your page through the File Manager screen. The changes will be shown on the public views of your Geocities page.

  6. Step 6

    Log off and view your profile to see if the changes went into effect and everything appears the way you want it to.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat the process if more changes need to be made. If some things are not the way you wanted them, you can still change them around.

Tips & Warnings
  • From the File Manager page, you can also upload any files that you want to upload, as long as they are compatible with the Yahoo capabilities.
  • You can create more than one Geocities page. For example, you can create one for your business and a separate one for your personal use.
  • For anything that you want to add to your page that involves an HTML code, you need to be certain that you copy and paste the code exactly as it is shown. If you do not, your file will not appear on your profile page.
