Reheat Pasta

Reheated pasta is never as good as freshly cooked - reheating inevitably overcooks the pasta. But if you've got some left over, here's how to freshen it up.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Colanders
  • Stockpots
  1. Step 1

Boil a pot of water on the stove.

  2. Step 2

Add plain pasta and heat for 30 seconds or until hot.

  3. Step 3

    Drain.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's best to heat the pasta and sauce separately. (In fact, it's best to just save the sauce and throw out the pasta, if there aren't a lot of noodles left!) But if you've got some already mixed, heat them up in the microwave. Add a little more sauce, if you've got it, so the pasta doesn't dry out.
  • Reheat baked pasta dishes such as lasagna in a 350 degree oven, covered. Depending on how thick the dish is, it could take from 30 to 45 minutes to heat completely.

on 7/26/2009 Reheat Pasta? Easy. Pour something on it and stick the whole thing in the microwave. I have Italian on both sides and have been a cook, family owned a restaurant and other family members have owned restaurants. Just do it, it's OK.

on 2/17/2009 Interesting suggestions. We usually heat it up w/leftover sauce in the microwave (if there's any left, that is).

on 2/15/2009 Here is the most effective way to reheat pasta so that it will taste 95% as good as fresh. I have only done this with red sauces, but I believe it will also work for other types of sauces.Make sure to prepare extra sauce when you first make the pasta dish. Keep some extra sauce in a separate bowl in refrigerator. When you are ready to heat cold pasta, pour the extra sauce to the cold pasta. Heat in microwave oven, do not over cook the pasta. Best to make pasta very warm, but not scalding hot. If done properly, tastes very similar to freshly made.

on 1/16/2009 my take on this recalls the old boil-in-the-bag meals we ate before microwaves; place the cooked pasta in a large zip-loc bag, coated with small amount of olive oil. Then just dip the whole bag in boiling water for 45-60 seconds, open, pour...can be done with sauce, too, just leave out oil.
