Connecting a Broadband Modem
Step1
Ensure that you have all necessary equipment to connect the broadband modem. This includes the modem itself, CD ROM and manual, Ethernet cable, telephone cord (if you have an ADSL modem) and power adapter. Contact the retailer or manufacturer of the broadband modem if any of the above equipment is missing.

Read the user manual to understand the function of each piece of equipment in the package. For example, an Ethernet cable connects the broadband modem to your computer.

If you have an ADSL connection, connect the telephone cord to the ADSL line port of the broadband modem. For all other broadband connections, your internet service provider (ISP) will install a CAT5 or CAT6 cable that should be connected to the Internet port of the broadband modem.

Connect the ethernet cable from any of the Ethernet ports on the broadband modem to the LAN/Ethernet port of your computer.

Attach the power adapter to the modem, plug it in and switch it on. Verify the connectivity of all the devices before you begin the set up process.
Setting Up the Broadband Modem

Open your Web browser and type in the URL of the modem's administrative site. Refer to the user manual for this URL. Contact the modem manufacturer's customer service line if you can't find the URL.

Login to the admin section by entering the username and the password found in the user manual. Again, contact your vendor’s customer service if you don’t find the username and password, but first try the default username and password “admin.”

Choose your internet connection type. There are four types of broadband internet connections—Dynamic IP Address, Static IP Address, PPPoE/PPPoA and Bridge mode. Call your ISP to inquire which setting is most compatible with their broadband service.

Choose Dynamic IP Address to access an IP address automatically from your ISP’s server. You'll be provided with an IP address for every broadband Internet connection. In some cases the IP address is dynamic (changes each time you connect to the Internet), and in others it is static (the IP address is retained even after you disconnect and reconnect to the Internet). In the case of a dynamic address, you'll have to select this setting so the modem automatically takes the IP from the ISP’s server each time you establish a new broadband Internet connection. Enter your modem’s MAC Address (usually found at the back of the modem) and other details. Refer to the user manual or call the modem manufacturer’s customer service for these details.

Choose Static IP Address if your ISP provides you with a static IP. You need to fill in the VPI, VCI, IP Address, Subnet Mask, ISP Gateway Address, Server Address, Primary DNS Address, Secondary DSN Address and connection type. Get these details from your ISP.
Step6
Choose PPPoE/PPPoA if your ISP uses this type of connection. Generally, broadband DSL users use this connection. Enter the user name, password and other details. Your ISP will provide this information.
Step7
Select Bridge Mode if your ISP uses this connection type. Enter the relevant details provided by your ISP.
Step8
Finish the process by clicking on the "Finish" icon. Your modem should now be set up.
Step9
Enter any URL address in Internet Explorer to check whether your broadband Internet connection is working.
