If you use Skype and are a Skype voicemail subscriber, you can leave a voicemail for a friend. Some voicemail options are only available when you and the person you wish to call both have voicemail. Voicemails for Skype customers can be delivered to a customer’s voicemail inbox or can be forwarded to another phone number. Follow these steps to leave a voicemail for a friend on Skype.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • Skype account
  1. Step 1

To use voicemail on Skype, you have to activate the voicemail service. Sign into your Skype account with your username and password.

  2. Step 2

Go to your “Account Overview” page and click the “Buy Skype Voicemail” link. You will be directed to a page that gives payment and package options. You may buy voicemail time in 3-month or full-year packages.

  3. Step 3

Choose your options. Once you have signed up for Skype voicemail, you can then leave voicemails for your friends or anyone else on your contact list. If you are making a computer-to-computer call to a friend who is not online, you may leave a chat or voicemail.

  4. Step 4

When making a cell phone or landline call to a Skype customer, they must have a SkypeIn phone number subscription. This will come with a local phone number as well as a free voicemail account.

  5. Step 5

Leave a voicemail. No matter how you call, if you have subscribed to voicemail or the Skype customer you are calling has voicemail, you will be able to leave them a message. Simply click on the person's name on your contact list and you will have the option to leave a voicemail.

Tips & Warnings
  • Either you or the person you call must have a SkypeIn account or a voicemail account. If you buy voicemail, sign up for a 1-year package, as it is cheaper.
  • You will have to use a credit card to purchase Skype voicemail. Make sure you computer has a secure connection to the Skype Web site to protect your credit card information.
