Palm PDAs generally come with the eReader application, which allows you to view eBooks on your device. The Palm PDA can store numerous titles, the number limited only by available storage. This guide will show you how to download them from the Palm eBook Store, but the steps can be applied to other sites as well. Follow these steps to learn how to download eBooks to read on a Palm PDA.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • Palm PDA
  1. Step 1

Open your Internet browser to the Palm Web site (see link below). Sign in or open a new account. You will have to provide a valid email address and credit card number to create a new account.

  2. Step 2

Look for eBooks in the Palm eBook Store. You may browse by author or by interest, or run search terms to generate a list of eBooks available. Click on an eBook’s cover image or title to open a summary page for that book.

  3. Step 3

Click on “Add to Cart” and then “Go to Checkout” to make your purchase. Continue the shopping process, entering information when prompted. On finishing, click “OK” to save the eBook to your computer as a Zip file.

  4. Step 4

Open and uncompress the downloaded Zip file with a file compression/expansion utility like WinZip (Windows) or StuffIt Expander (Mac).

  5. Step 5

Open your Palm Desktop software. Drag and drop the uncompressed eBook file to Quick Install (on Windows) or the Send to Handheld droplet (on Mac).

  6. Step 6

Run a synchronization of the Palm device with your computer. This will send an eBook copy to your device.

  7. Step 7

Open eReader on your Palm device, then find and select the new title from the list.

  8. Step 8

Enter your name and the unlock code—the credit card number for your user account. This will activate the eBook for your personal use on the PDA.

Tips & Warnings
  • You will need the eReader program to open eBook files on a Palm. The file may be packed among the applications on your installation software. If so, just run the Install CD and choose to add the eReader program to your handheld.
  • During the Palm eBook Store checkout process, you are allowed to select the option of downloading eReader with your eBook file. Select this option only if you do not have eReader installed.
  • Do not save eBook files to folders located deep in your computer directory. The Palm may have problems synchronizing with a file located in a folder with a very long directory path.
