Your favorite music is a direct link to your personality. Favorite songs and musicians are among the most widely shared topics among friends. Because of this, file-sharing programs have become a dominant online presence. It is only natural that you would want to play a sampling of your favorite music and sounds for friends and visitors to your Web page. Follow these steps to add background music to a Web page in Yahoo! PageBuilder.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • Yahoo! account
  1. Step 1

Open Yahoo! PageBuilder. This is the program you use to create and edit your Web page. Find the PageBuilder icon or open it from the Programs list.

  2. Step 2

Locate the “Add-On” button in the toolbar at the top of the PageBuilder screen. Click that button and a smaller Add-Ons screen will open.

  3. Step 3

Find the Add-On screen. On the left side of this screen (labeled “Categories”), click on the word “Basics.” Then on the right side of the window (labeled “Add-Ons”), click the “Background” icon. This will open a window that will ask you to set the visual properties of the background.

  4. Step 4

Use the Background Properties window. This window will have a Background Music section. In this section, select “Background” from the Properties Format menu. When the new Background Properties window pops up, click the “Choose” button in the Background Music section.

  5. Step 5

Select a sound file. A list of available music files will appear. Choose a music file from this list by double-clicking it. To use songs or music from your computer’s files, you must have uploaded these music files previous to Step 1. Research “Uploading a Music File to Yahoo! PageBuilder” to learn how to add your own files to the Available Music list.

  6. Step 6

Choose a “looping” option. You will now see a screen with a checkbox next to the word loop.” Checking this box will make the music you selected loop. Leaving it unchecked will allow the Web page to only play the music one time through.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pick a song that reveals a shade of your personality. Whether it’s your favorite band or sound that represents your current mood, use this opportunity to add personalization to your Web page.
  • Make sure that you have permission to use the sound or music file. Copyright laws are constantly under review in today’s world of file sharing and piracy. Make sure you are not making a costly mistake.
  • It is much easier to upload music files before you begin the music selection process. Search eHow.com for a step-by-step guide to uploading music files into Yahoo! PageBuilder. The files will be ready when you get to Step 5.
  • Pirating music is a crime. But there are still many file sharing/downloading programs available today. Only upload music that you obtained legally.
