A great way to make your Web page stand out is to connect your page to the entire World Wide Web. All you have to is add a Yahoo! search box to your page. This will allow your visitors to search either your page or the Internet using a keyword search. Follow these steps to learn how to add a Yahoo! search box to your GeoCities Web page.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • Yahoo account
  1. Step 1

Log onto your Web page. If you are using a GeoCities Web page, use your Yahoo! or GeoCities user name and password to log on.

  2. Step 2

Open another browser window and go to the GeoCities Control Panel. This is where you start the process of adding your Yahoo! search box.

  3. Step 3

Decide how you want to add your Yahoo! search box. If you want to add the search box to your GeoCities page, use the Page Builder option by clicking on the "Page Builder" link. This will automatically take you to the Page Builder site, where you can use the "Drag and Drop Editor" feature.

  4. Step 4

Copy and paste the HTML code of a Yahoo! search box onto your Web page, if you do not have Page Builder. To do this, click on the "Select Code" button, then copy the code by clicking the left button of your mouse and selecting "Copy," or by selecting "Copy" under the Edit tab.

  5. Step 5

Click the File Manager button found on the GeoCities Control Panel. (To paste the HTML code onto your Web page, you must open the File Manager feature.)

  6. Step 6

Paste the code. Once in your File Manager, select the file where you want to save the code. From there, paste the code by clicking on "Paste" either using the left button of your mouse or the "Edit" tab found in your tool bar.

  7. Step 7

    Click "Save."

Tips & Warnings
  • To save time, add the HTML code to your GeoCities page using the Advanced Editor feature. Simply click the "Go to File Manager" button.
  • What file you choose to paste the HTML code in will determine where the Yahoo! search box will be displayed on your site. Be sure to check your page to make sure it is displayed correctly.
  • You can also add a Yahoo! GeoCities search box. This lets your visitors search other GeoCities member pages.
  • Be sure to copy the entire HTML code as is. If you only copy part of it, the Yahoo! search box will not display correctly.
