Getting links to your blog on other Web sites not only increases your readership, it elevates the rating for your blog in search engines. Google, for instance, will list a site higher in a search if it frequently appears as a link on other sites. If you want to improve your blog's search engine ranking, follow these steps.

From Quick Guide: Learn to Blog
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet
  1. Step 1

Search for sites and blogs that are similar to your blog's topic; if your blog is about fishing then use "fishing" as a keyword.

  2. Step 2

Study the Web sites and blogs that are potential candidates for a link to your blog, and choose which ones you want to contact.

  3. Step 3

Send an e-mail to the webmaster of the site(s) you're interested in, asking if they are willing to link to you. Most webmasters' addresses are listed on the site under "Contact."

  4. Step 4

In your e-mail express admiration for the site and ask if your blog is of interest as a link. And always offer to link back to their site -- this may make them more willing to give you a link.

Tips & Warnings
  • Store a standard e-mail on your computer so that it's ready to fire off to Web sites that are potential links.
  • To find out who is already linking to you, search for "link:yoursite.com."
  • Your e-mail communication should be friendly and polite, and above all professional.
  • Don't pester webmasters. Doing so will ensure that you do not get a link from their site.
