How to Connect an HP iPAQ to a Computer
There are a couple reasons you might want to connect your HP iPAQ Pocket PC to a computer. First, you might want to charge your Pocket PC's battery using the computer as a power source. Second, you might want to synchronize the information on your handheld with your computer. Follow these steps to connect an HP iPAQ to a computer.

Read the HP user guide you received with your iPAQ and get to know all the buttons and accessories on your Pocket PC.

Locate the Microsoft ActiveSync Companion CD, the AC adapter, the desktop cradle and the USB synchronization cable.

Install Microsoft ActiveSync on the computer you would like to connect your iPAQ to. First, insert the ActiveSync installation software CD into the CD-ROM drive.

Click on the link to install Microsoft ActiveSync and then follow the prompts in the installation wizard to complete the ActiveSync installation process.

Restart your computer if necessary, depending on your operating system.

Plug the end of the AC adapter into an electrical outlet and plug the charging tip into the appropriate slot on the desktop cradle.

Connect one end of the USB synchronization cable to the desktop cradle and insert the other end into the USB port on your computer.

Charge your Pocket PC battery or synchronize your iPAQ with your computer.

Tips & Warnings
Once you've set up an initial connection using the USB synchronization cable and the desktop cradle, you'll also be able to synchronize your Pocket PC with your personal computer using an infrared connection.
Some HP iPAQ models have Bluetooth capability, and they can connect to a computer using Bluetooth technology. If your Pocket PC has Bluetooth, refer to your user guide for details on connecting to a computer.
Check your desktop computer for an infrared USB adapter or infrared port. Read your desktop computer user guide to install and/or set up an infrared port. Once the infrared port is set up, just aim the iPAQ at the infrared port and start the synchronization process.
