How to Connect a Pocket PC to a Computer

      Read the owner's manual or user guide included in the box when you bought your new Pocket PC.

      Get acquainted with all the parts and accessories that come with your Pocket PC.

      Find the software installation CD, the USB cradle, the AC adapter and the USB connector cable.

      Place the installation CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive.

      Click on the link to install the Pocket PC desktop software. An installation wizard should pop up to help you through the installation process. Depending on your computer's operating system, you may need to restart your computer to complete installation.

      Connect the USB cradle to the computer by plugging it into a USB port.

      Plug one end of the AC adapter into the correct slot on the USB cradle and the other end into an electrical outlet in the wall.

      Place your Pocket PC on the USB cradle. Now you are ready to either charge the Pocket PC main battery or synchronize it with your personal computer.

  • If the software installation wizard doesn't open automatically, click the "Start" button. Select "Run" and then "Browse" to locate your CD-ROM drive. Double-click on the exe. file to begin the desktop software installation process.

  • After you've set up an initial connection between your Pocket PC and your personal computer, you should also be able to perform the synchronization process using the infrared sensor, if both your Pocket PC and your computer are infrared-enabled. Read your owner's manual to learn more. With an infrared connection, all you need to do to sync is aim the Pocket PC at the infrared port on your computer.

  • Some Pocket PCs come with Bluetooth. If your Pocket PC has Bluetooth capability, you can connect to a Bluetooth-enabled computer.

  • When placing your Pocket PC on the USB cradle, make sure the contacts are aligned correctly before pushing down to secure the handheld device. The pins are very sensitive and fragile.
