How to Connect a Dell Axim to a Computer

After you're familiar with all the parts, buttons and accessories on your Dell Axim, you have a couple of options for connecting your Pocket PC to your computer. While you can connect using a cradle, you also can connect directly to the computer using a synchronization cable without the cradle.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Dell Axim
  1. Step 1

    Read the Dell Axim user guide included in the box.

  2. Step 2

    Find the Dell Companion CD and the USB Sync Cable.

  3. Step 3

    Install Microsoft ActiveSync on your personal computer before connecting your Dell Axim to the computer for the first time.

  4. Step 4

    Place the Dell Companion CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive.

  5. Step 5

    Follow the prompts of the installation wizard to complete the ActiveSync installation process. You might need to restart your computer before proceeding to the next step.

  6. Step 6

    Connect one end of the USB Sync Cable to the USB connector port on your computer.

  7. Step 7

    Attach the other end of the USB Sync Cable to the appropriate slot on your Dell Axim.

  8. Step 8

    Begin synchronization of your Dell Axim.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the software installation wizard doesn't open automatically after your place the CD in the CD-ROM drive, click the "Start" button. Select "Run" and then browse the computer for your CD-ROM drive. Double-click on the Dell Companion CD file icon to run the software installation process.
  • Not all Dell Axim models come with a USB Sync Cable, so you may need to connect to a computer using the USB Cradle.
  • If your Pocket PC has an infrared port or Bluetooth capability, you also can connect to a computer wirelessly.
  • Prevent damage to the USB connector by pushing the buttons on the side of the connector to release the self-lock device before you attempt to pull the USB connector out of your Dell Axim.
